To provide specialized consultancy services to both internal and external customers. Consultancy services offered to external customers are competitively priced to ensure value while generating additional revenue for the Company.

Pole Leasing

The section is responsible for management and optimization of pole leasing services. It provides specialized pole leasing solutions designed to support modern telecommunications infrastructure enabling seamless connectivity of service providers and end users.

We also implement Special Utility Poles that share both utility power lines and licensed service providers.

Meter Central Laboratory

Meter Central Laboratory (MCL) is an accredited laboratory under the Kenya National Accreditation Service (KENAS), the national body responsible for accrediting testing and calibration laboratories in Kenya.

The laboratory operates in accordance with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, the international standard for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.

Metering Activities

• Testing of single phase and three phase energy meters
• Smart meter functional and accuracy tests

Calibration Activities

• Calibration of reference standard meters and portable test equipment working standards
• Multimeters, clamp meters, insulation resistance testers

Quality Assurance Activities

• Testing of 4% randomly sampled new energy meters population
• 100% testing of returned energy meters for quality assurance

Consultancy Achievements

• Successfully conducted power system feasibility studies for Kenya Petroleum Refineries Limited (KPRL).
• Undertook oil filtration and Breakdown Voltage (BDV) testing services for Vipingo Ridge Limited.
• Delivering consultancy services under the Somaliland Electricity Sector Recovery Project (SESRP), supporting business operations and sector development.
• Participating in the pilot implementation of Electric Cooking in Schools in partnership with the Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) Programme and CLASP, with funding from the UK Government through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
• Conducting power quality studies for large power consumers experiencing intermittent voltage disturbances, resulting in improved power system performance and reliability.
• Supporting the operationalization of the Utility-Run Super ESCO framework to promote energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives.

Meter Lab Achievements

• Accreditation status of the laboratory — internationally recognized.
• Participating in commissioning of the 400 kV HVDC Ethiopian Line.
• Participating in commissioning of the 400 kV Kenya–Tanzania line.
